Becoming a parent for the first time is an exciting and beautiful time! I’m thrilled I got to be a part of this couple’s journey and photograph their maternity shoot (and later, their newborn lifestyle shoot). We went on a leisurely walk in a nature-filled park with their dog, and these Orange County maternity photos were simple yet whimsical!
I always tell my clients that fur babies are more than welcome to your photoshoot! They’re great for bringing out real emotions with their silly antics.
Cori gave so much helpful guidance from choosing the ideal location, helping us pick our outfits, and giving recommendations for hair/makeup artists. Being photographed can sometimes feel artificial and awkward, but she captured genuine laughter, and allowed us to truly savor the moment. Our photos came out better than I could have ever imagined! She even caught great pictures of our dog, who never sits still or looks at the camera!

Maternity shoots are such a great way to reconnect with your partner.
I like to keep the mood light, and sometimes I’ll get my couples to do fun things, like sing their fave song.
I asked him to sing his favorite song while they were dancing together. He automatically launched into Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean.” It’s a fun catchy song, right?!. However, he quickly realized that he might’ve picked a poor choice of song for the occasion. As soon as he started the beginning part “Billie Jean, she’s not my lover…” his very pregnant wife jokingly butted in, “She BETTER not be!”
He continued singing “and the kid is not my son…..”
He paused and considered the lyrics, “…..you know…I might’ve made a poor choice of song for the occasion…” before both of them burst out laughing.
I also gave them a few more serious prompts, and asked them to share what they were most excited about (meeting the baby), and what they appreciated most about one another. It was a special and meaningful time, filled with genuine laughter and quiet reflection in preparation for the next chapter of their lives.
What to wear for your Orange County maternity photos?
I always tell clients to dress up a bit! When you’re pregnant and constantly tired, getting dolled up isn’t always a priority. Getting hair and makeup done for your shoot and throwing on a nice dress is a way to treat yourself!

My wife and I had an awesome experience doing a maternity shoot with Cori, and we had an even better time taking pics with our newborn Oliver at our home. She made it fun (i.e. sing your favorite Karaoke song) and meaningful (i.e. name five characteristics of your wife which you value the most) while snapping jaw-dropping pictures. You will not be disappointed!

Orange County maternity photos are amazing, because you can get so many beautiful backdrops without having to do any strenuous hiking.
I loved spending time with them and their dog, creating memories and waiting in anticipation to meet their first child.
